Peter and the Wolf

  • Children were invited to create their own conductor’s baton by adding different materials to a wooden dowel that they would be “conducting” with after the performance.

  • The musical group cLAw (Contemporary Los Angeles Winds) reimagined the symphonic tale of Peter and the Wolf through the power of story and song!

  • Similar to a Painter who uses their brush to direct the paint to create a masterpiece, a conductor uses their face and body to shape the sound. The post performance painting activity was a chance to provide a spontaneous opportunity to express feelings using paint after gathering.

  • Sammi Lee is a Los Angeles based flutist, educator, and arts administrator who is a part of the Piano Technology Department team at the Colburn School and an Ensemble Librarian at YOLA with LA Phil. She has performed with Ariana Grande at the 2020 Grammy Awards and appeared as a flutist in the TV show "This Is Us". She is a big supporter of contemporary music and composers and founded the Contontemprary L.A. Winds quintet. Sammi was a music director at Rolling Hills Preparatory School and at Wonderland Elementary School.

She earned an MFA from California Institute of the Arts in flute performance and holds a certificate in Digital Marketing Specialization from the University of Illinois and in CS50 Computer Science from Harvard University.

  • Dana Lewis Howell holds degrees in music composition from UCLA (PhD), San Francisco Conservatory of Music (MM) and Carnegie Mellon University (BFA). He has dual degrees in composition and clarinet performance.

Dana Howell currently serves as Instrumental Music Director at Highland Hall Waldorf School. Since coming to Los Angeles in 2004, he has been an active composer, performer, conductor, and teacher, previously holding positions as Music Director at St. John Eudes Church. He taught composition and theory at the Brevard Music Center summer festival from 2008 to 2012 and studied at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau.

  • Claire Brazeau is the principal oboist of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. She has established herself as a touring soloist, avid chamber musician, and pedagogue. In addition to her concert season, she is an active studio musician and has recorded for several movie and television soundtracks. She is on the faculty of the Bob Cole Conservatory California State University Long Beach. Under the tutelage of Allan Vogel, Claire received an Artist Diploma from The Colburn School. At Bard College and Conservatory she earned a triple major with a Bachelor of Arts in East-Asian studies and piano, and a Bachelor of Music in oboe. Her principal teachers at Bard were Laura Ahlbeck and Elaine Douvas.

  • Dr. Annie Bosler wears many hats in her career as a Los Angeles freelance horn player. She has toured with John Williams' Star Wars in Concert and with Josh Groban, and performed on Dancing with the Stars, The Ellen Show, and PBS's Live from Lincoln Center.

Annie is professor of horn at California State University, Northridge. Annie holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University where she played varsity tennis, and a MM and DMA from the University of Southern California. visit anniebosler.com.

  • Kat Beers is a Los Angeles based multi instrumentalist and piano technician. She holds a degree in Bassoon Performance from Calarts, which some have called a silly thing to get a degree in, but she has never regretted doing. She is a founding member of the woodwind quintet cLAw (Contemporary Los Angeles Winds) which she founded while working at the Colburn school with Dr Bosler and Mrs. Lee. The idea to start the group was brought to her by a spunky young oboe student, Claire Brazeau, and the rest quite frankly is history.

  • Rachel Hirshberg, visual artist and psychotherapist, creates community experiences for healing through art and play.  After years working as a mental health specialist in hospitals, residential treatment centers and schools, Rachel has found her home At Rockwell Psychological Services in Eagle Rock where she provides psychotherapy for children and families.
